How The Use Of Children’s Educational Entertainment Videos Can Add Value

Parents who care about the entertainment that their children are exposed to, share a common concern that most children’s entertainment lacks any educational value. In fact the entertainment industry for children is primarily focused on creating a fun filled, light hearted experience for its viewers. There is certainly a place for this, however for the most part this type of entertainment is what dominates childrens hours in front of the television leaving them with a fleeting laugh. There is a way to incorporate fun filled light hearted entertainment with educational and informative content through educational entertainment videos.
Unfortunately, the word ‘educational’ is often associated with something dull and boring but educational entertainment videos are anything but dull. They engage their viewers in a fun filled adventure, exploring various subjects, allowing children to use their imagination while sharing interesting facts. The traditional method of teaching can seem stagnant to some learners and the learners who thrive in the classroom environment will benefit from a change in how content is delivered; either in a live action format or in animation.
Educational videos offer a valuable and exciting opportunity for children to engage with the subjects and content that they have already have been exposed to at school. The school environment can sometimes be monotonous for learners for different learning styles and educational videos can be used to fill the gap where learners lose interest in traditional method of learning. The subjects that can be explored through educational videos are limitless and the formats of live action or animation can produce endless possibilities for reaching children.
Educational videos can never be a substitute for a good education but there is certainly a place for it in terms of children’s entertainment to support and reinforce concepts and themes that have been covered already or to introduce a subject and pique a child’s interest. Besides the live action and animation formats of these videos, educational videos can also take the form of documentaries or even music videos. The diversity in the formats along with the variety of subjects that can be covered give endless possibilities and the ability to appeal to a wide range of children with varied interests and learning styles.
Educational videos lend themselves to shared family time- where children and parents can sit and watch something that is fun and entertaining for the whole family. Shared experiences are often the ones that children remember and by drawing in the whole family there are endless possibilities for family trips or discussion being prompted by what is seen on the videos.
